Function>Style | Brooklyn Bike Works

What do you do? I’m a courier, my company is Clementine Courier, Inc. and an instructor of Bamboo Bike Studios (Check out the site!)
What kind of bike is this? It’s a Brooklyn Machine Works frame, steel tubing, and it’s built to take a beating. I’ve been on this maybe three months now and I’m enjoying it so far.
Why this bike? Every bike has a purpose, it depends on what you’re doing with it. I like working on this bike because the way it’s set up really works for me. It’s a fixed gear, low maintenance. You use your inertia and your constantly moving–it makes sense for such a flat city.
So you bought the frame and put the components together? Yeah. That’s right.
[pause as he takes a call from another courier]
Are fixies popular because there are less components to break? You’re talking to the wrong person. I’m 190lbs, and I constantly have something on me, so I’m anywhere between 220-230lbs, and with the amount of force to take me to get moving; parts break even more. In the last year, I’ve broken six frames, burned through eight sets of cranks, chains, tires and more.
